This year’s buying guide

Whether you want to replace your old helmet or plan to buy the best helmet scooter for your new ride, you’ll probably find it hard to find your way around. There are many possibilities in terms of style, size, shape, design, comfort, etc. and it can be difficult to choose the right model. Here are a few things that can help you find the model that meets your needs.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-267.jpeg

Inspection of building materials

If you are looking for scooter helmets for sale, you want to compare building materials. The different helmets are made of different materials. The low-priced models have an outer shell made of injection molded ABS polymers, which offers a good balance between price and protection.

The inner part is usually made of EPS foam, which has good damping properties and offers reliable protection against shocks.

High-quality helmets can be made from fibreglass composites that can absorb more energy in the event of a collision, but models made from this material tend to cost more. Carbon fiber is usually found in the most expensive helmets on the market, but they offer the best protection for their weight if you can afford it.

Check that it matches.

The best motorcycle helmet for scooters is the right one. This should be quite clear, but many people don’t understand how important it is that the helmet fits perfectly. This is especially important when it comes to finding a scooter with a child’s helmet, because scooters vary in size and you want maximum protection for your young rider.

A helmet that jumps too big while riding a horse makes a lot of noise and, worse, offers no or insufficient protection in the event of an accident. Wearing an oversized helmet carries a high risk in case of an accident, because it can even fall off your head, which is certainly the last thing you want in such a scenario.

The helmet should also not be too tight, because it can be very uncomfortable while riding and makes long distance riding or trips almost impossible. If the helmet is just too small, it won’t fit properly on your head and you’ll get less protection. The helmet should be a little tight around the head, forehead and cheeks, but not too tight.

So make sure you measure your head before you order and check the size of the board for the specific brand you want to buy. The size of your head doesn’t necessarily say anything about the shape of your head, and the best way to make sure your helmet fits you is to actually fit it. If you have ordered the wrong size, try to return it and you will get a size that suits you.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-268.jpeg

Helmet and open-worked form

You can put on a scooter helmet and enjoy the wind in your face while driving. These helmets offer a dignified protection and a retro look. These are usually the lightest options, but they do not cover the entire head and do not come with face protection. However, you can always add a smokescreen, a visor or even a neck curtain.

The open face is more versatile and offers more protection. Many of these models have an integrated visor and shields, and on some more expensive models you can also add a chin guard and mouth guard.

You can also purchase a Bluetooth-scooter helmet. They allow you to connect different means of communication to stay in touch with other runners in the group or with other people. Just be careful not to disturb your hearing when driving in a strong current. Also check the government legislation regarding the use of this equipment on public roads.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-269.jpeg

Maximum protection with full face

Full face helmets offer the best protection you can buy. This type of hat covers the entire head, face, mouth and chin. These are the toughest helmets, but the question you have to ask yourself is whether you are willing to sacrifice some protection for extra comfort.

Scooter helmets are the subject of many positive reviews for the full versions, and there is no shortage of models from well-known brands that are built with durable materials, but at the same time offer many options.

Ventilation is very important

If you are looking for a helmet for your scooter, you can also check its ventilation system. If you’re riding in hot weather, you’ll probably sweat too much, and without a good air circulation system to cool you down and remove moisture from your helmet, you won’t have much fun riding.

Many models are equipped with a double ventilation system that starts at the front, goes through the top of the helmet and then comes out through the back of the helmet. There are also side vents that circulate around the head and effectively dissipate heat from the helmet.

With a fully functional version, ventilation becomes even more important, so you have to choose a unit with sufficient air circulation.

Buy an easy to wash model

Especially if you travel in the summer or go to work often, you also want a helmet that is easy to wash. All those rides in hot weather, when insects collide with the helmet, soot and dust cover the outer shell, and body oil and sweat pull into the shell, certainly make your helmet terrible.

You can choose a model from which you can remove the lining and the wall cushions to wash and clean them separately. Helmets in which you can remove visors, shields and ventilation openings are also easier to clean.

Do not forget to follow the cleaning and care instructions to avoid scratching the helmet or damaging the lining.

Check your national legislation

Another important thing to do before buying a helmet is to check the laws of your state. Some states are not so restrictive when it comes to wearing helmets on scooters, while others require only certified models with or without a mandatory visor. Some may even ask you to wear a motorcycle helmet, so make sure you have done your research before you buy.

Frequently asked questions about scooter helmets

V: How should a scooter helmet fit?

When you buy a helmet, make sure it is securely fastened. Hold your helmet by the chinstrap and put it on your head. The helmet must be placed directly on the head and must not bend forwards or backwards.

If the helmet is too big, it can swing while riding, causing discomfort and a lot of noise, and it can also go off in an accident, which is the last thing you want. The helmet should fit well without pressing on the cheeks and forehead.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-270.jpeg

V: How do I measure the size of my scooter helmet?

The right helmet size is crucial for your protection while riding. However, differences in size and units of measurement can confuse you a little. First you have to measure the entire circumference of your head above the ears and eyebrows.

Then check the size chart and compare it with your own measurements. Most diagrams also show flat sizes for comparison purposes, although they do not always give a good idea of the correct size. You should try to use the graphics of a specific brand that sells the model you want, because different brands can have different graphics.

V: How much do scooter helmets cost?

The price of helmets can vary greatly, depending on the brand, model, type, etc. Full face helmets, for example, will cost much more than half of that amount. It also depends on the accessories that come with the helmets, such as smoke curtains, canopies, straight curtains, etc.

Some simple helmets cost only a few dollars and offer only limited head protection. Large models of famous brands can cost several hundred dollars, but they offer you extra protection and can be worn on a motorcycle in many states that require it.

V: Do scooters need a helmet?

Most American states require all drivers to wear helmets. In some states, riders are required to wear an adjustable helmet, which must meet certain minimum requirements. You should also bear in mind that in some states drivers are required to wear glasses or shields, while in other states they may even be required to carry a driver’s license and registration.

Helmet roller – Cleaning and maintenance tips

After wearing your helmet for a long time, you may notice that it starts to smell bad. All body oil and sweat penetrate the interior lining, while insects, dust and soot can cover the outside with a lot of dirt, which is not only ugly but can also obstruct visibility while driving.

The good news is that you can clean your helmet and let it shine again, it looks and feels like new. However, you need to follow a few steps and find out what you can do and what you should never do when cleaning your helmet.

Internal cleaning

If you have a removable lining, remove it with the cheek pads and place it in the sink with warm water and mild soap or baby shampoo. Let them soak for a few minutes, then you can start rubbing them gently to remove all traces of oil, sweat and dirt from your body. Then rinse and allow to dry naturally. Never use a heat source for drying.

If the lining cannot be removed, make sure that all removable parts and accessories, such as the visor, removable ventilation holes, etc., have been removed. Wash your helmet a little in the shower and then put it in a bucket of baby shampoo. Gently wipe the EPS inserts and foam with fingers to remove all dirt, then rinse and dry.

Outdoor cleaning

Now that we’ve taken care of the inside, we should try to clean the outside. If you had to wash your helmet in a bucket because the lining didn’t fall off, most insects and dirt would already have fallen off the helmet. Even if they hadn’t, they are now well soaked and it’s easy to remove their helmets. Gently wipe them with a damp cloth.

You can also use cotton swabs for ventilation and a very soft brush for difficult areas – just be careful not to scratch the surface.

If you have not soaked your helmet, clean the outside with a damp or microfibre cloth. Let the hard to remove parts of insects and dirt in advance and never scratch your helmet, because you might scratch it.

Then you can restore your helmet to its new look with a wax varnish. You can also use synthetic oil for vision seals and other moving parts to keep them in good condition.
