13 Best motorbike tents (reviews) in 2020

Choosing good motorcycle tents may not be the easiest thing in the world, as most drivers take the safety of their precious cars very seriously. If you add a lot of these things, you’ll end up having to browse through the reviews about motorcycle tents for hours. Our team has already done it for you and we have listed below the products that have received the best reviews.

1. Tent for standard motorcycles (medium)

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-93.jpeg The aptly named bicycle screen offers excellent protection against water and UV radiation thanks to its two-layer construction, which consists of a very heavy polyurethane foil under a UV-resistant sheath.

The inner layer has been tested to 2000 mm H2O/m, which should provide sufficient sealing for the storm. It is also an indicator of the overall quality of the material, which must be held securely against tearing and also prevent dust from forming on the motorcycle.

The cage design allows for easy installation and the frame is made of galvanized metal to prevent corrosion. The wheels are supported by two metal beams at the base of the bike, which should hold the whole structure in place in windy weather.

Due to its elongated shape, the tent should be able to easily access the motorcycle’s exhaust pipe without touching it, so there is no need to wait for it to cool down before putting on the cover.

2. Quictent BarnHeavy Bicycles

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-94.jpeg With a length of 135.8 inches, a width of 53.9 inches and a head height of 74.8 inches, this Quictent model is designed for use with large motorcycles. A sturdy steel frame is used that can significantly increase the weight, but also ensures that everything else remains rigid and in place.

The metal tips are sprayed for better protection against water, and the Oxford fabric, which has been tested up to 1200 mm H2O, does not let much water through. It also protects against ultraviolet rays and any other harmful factor you can imagine, snow, dust, dirt, etc. Adequate ventilation is provided by two mesh windows, which are closed with shutters.

As this is a relatively affordable device, you can assume that some of the things that go with it are below the top level. Initially, customers reported signs of discoloration of the material, but this should not affect the protection of the bicycle from the sun. Secondly, some people find spokes in some places that show superficial rust, but this is a rare complaint.

3. Motorcycle hood for Popsport Black Oxford 600D

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-95.jpeg This Popsport awning is a cheap solution and offers enough protection for your bike if you have enough money to buy a tent. The sailcloth itself is made of Oxford cloth with a water resistance coefficient of 600D.

Even though it doesn’t look like much, it has to be able to withstand all the rain we can expect in the United States. Don’t forget that most umbrellas don’t need a waterproof factor higher than 450.

To preserve the grid beams, the steel from which they are made is galvanized and the frame itself would be lightly mounted and curved for easy access. Although it fits most bikes, this shelter is not very impressive in terms of size, as it is 106 inches long and 41 inches wide. Moreover, it is not high enough for a windscreen on most cruise ships.

It’s also a little lighter than the competition, so on windy days you have to support it with a little weight on the sides.

4. Vuz Moto 12 Rear waterproof motorbike tent

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-96.jpeg

The Vuz motorcycle also deserves your attention because it has a spacious design that gives it overall functionality. According to the seller, the model has a capacity of 102 x 36 inches and is suitable for a motorcycle and three people at the same time.

For ease of use, the manufacturer has designed it to include four access points. To help you avoid mistakes, this tent is also equipped with nets that protect you from handling animals.

All interested buyers should be aware that this product is classified by Vuz Moto as a three-season model because it is considered to be completely waterproof and resistant to strong winds. This option is easy to store and very light, so you can take it with you at any time. The tent is easy to set up and comes with two aluminium poles that are very stable.

5. 8-foot inflatable motor frame covered and storage

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-97.jpeg This inflatable canopy is designed to keep your bike in perfect condition, both in a shop window and in a garage. You can imagine car and bike collectors using it, but the price is no more than your usual Joe. With a length of 2.5 metres, it can hold and protect a whole range of vehicles from scratches, dust, moisture and all sorts of other things that can affect them inside.

The walls are made of 10 mm thick transparent PVC and the floor is made of the same material with a thickness of 18 mm.

Access is via a strong nylon zipper, specially designed to prevent scratches, and it is also possible to start the charger with the tips when it is inflated.

A high pressure fan refreshes the air in the bubble 3 to 6 times an hour to prevent moisture accumulation and condensation.

Buy now on Amazon ($328.42).

6. Speedy MTS-Gry grey Standard/small sports cabin

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-98.jpeg MTS-GRY distinguishes itself from its competitors by its grey character. Weighing 55 pounds for 108 x 43 x 64 inches, it is relatively heavy, which is just as important because its weight tends to translate into thicker material, better strength and overall quality, and it is less likely to fall over in the wind.

For the tarpaulin, a layer of polyester fabric and a 700 mm H2O-resistant polyurethane coating were used to provide good weather protection. The top is extended beyond the cage for easy access, and the frame itself would be relatively easy to assemble.

Although this shelter is not a cheap product, it has repeatedly received complaints about its imperfect watertightness. Although the test value of polyurethane is high enough to withstand any rain, water tends to form puddles on the roof, which eventually seep in and fall onto a motorcycle.

7. Kdgarden Heavy Duty Awning

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-99.jpeg

This alternative, which is distributed by Kdgarden, is made of a durable fabric that is completely waterproof and resistant to bad weather conditions. Because it also has shock-absorbing locks and is UV-treated inside, your car and tools will not be damaged by the sun.

The choice is quite solid because it contains a steel frame that is powder coated to prevent it from cracking, crumbling or rusting in the near future. In addition, this model has front doors with zippers for easy access. As the tent is 8 feet high, the user will have no trouble pitching it.

If you invest in this model, you will eventually be able to save space in your garage. You can also be sure that your garden tools and bike will not be damaged by changing weather conditions. Because of the size, you’ll need to get a friend or two to help you compose, as you’re sure to need extra hands.

Best camping tents for motorcyclists

If you are looking for a good tent for motorbike travel, the following section is for you. We considered a few set-ups, so in addition to the small blocks that only us or another person can hold, we also considered the tents as domes and cabins that are big enough for the whole group, assuming that one member is responsible for carrying the tent and not so many others.

8. Tent camp objectTent camp objectStorage object

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-100.jpeg This Camp Rite product is a slightly new combination of tent and cradle, which can easily be placed a few centimetres above the ground by one person. It has its own legs to provide you with a platform that is protected from moisture that can escape puddles, various snakes, insects and rodents.

Thanks to its universal design, it can be used both as a fully enclosed tent, with lightning bolts, and as a lounge chair, with the part that supports your body at an angle.

However, this additional complexity does not complicate the configuration as customers report that they can install the device in less than 5 minutes without the need for instructions.

It has a sealing coefficient that should be able to withstand anything but torrential rain and for only 25 pounds it should be a light load for the bike, despite the extra aluminium frame used for the legs.

Buy now on Amazon ($194.49)

9. Coleman’s 10-person tent cabin

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-101.jpeg This tent is advertised as a 10-person tent and has a 14′ x 9′ floor after installation to provide enough space for a large group, including equipment. Extra pockets can be used to organize your stuff, and the partition inside provides a degree of privacy.

The feedback was positive about a very good ventilation system, with an adjustable ventilation opening on the floor, a mesh roof, large windows and a water-repellent rain cover that covers most of them.

Like most new models that use synthetic materials, it is quite resistant to most rain showers and leaves the inside dry, on a small leak through a small opening made possible by the zipper.

You’d expect the size to make it difficult to set up, but it’s a folding tent, and most people who have bought it have found that the 60 seconds given by the manufacturer is enough to get the job done.

Buy now on Amazon ($219.99)

10. Sunday tent 4 persons

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-102.jpeg This 4-person dome tent is one of the best-selling dome tents of its kind on the market, and given the many features it offers at a surprisingly low price, it is easy to see why.

The manufacturer has paid particular attention to waterproofing, the plastic floor has been chemically welded to the skin and the seams have been reversed for better sealing.

If you need to repair certain sensitive surfaces or seal the rest of your equipment, an extra bottle of Coleman sealing foam will be added.

To prevent condensation from creating a humid environment on cool mornings, ventilation is provided by an adjustable slot in the floor and a few large windows that close when it rains.

This tent is relatively light (9 x 7 feet at the base and 4 feet 11 feet in the middle) and can be packed in separate bags, making it light enough to carry in the side pocket of a cruise ship.

11. Coleman Tenaya

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-103.jpeg The Coleman Tenaya tent with cockpit is not as popular as their 4-person model. It has certain features that make it recommendable for those who want maximum comfort while camping.

Thirst is great, with a footprint of 13 x 9 feet and an average height of almost 6’8, which should accommodate eight people in sleeping bags or a large folding bed with two small sleeping bags.

An interesting addition is the 2 x 2 meter cabinet, which is more than just a corner where you can throw a few bundles to spread them out, although it can very well be used as such. A cord can be used for the pendant and several nylon shelves can be used to store light objects.

The ventilation is said to be good and this tent can withstand the heat of the summer days, but a rainstorm does not make it ideal for covering large windows and wall bases.

Buy now on Amazon ($208.58).

12. NTK NTK Indy GT XL

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-104.jpeg This dome-shaped tent can easily be used as an expedition tent because it has a large drum in combination with a rain cover that can be used as a cover for one or two bicycles. The 190T raincoat in laminated polyester offers a surprisingly high level of protection for its class with an H2O test of 2500 mm. It can reach the tent floor and can also be treated to resist UV rays.

The 8 x 8 foot sleeping area is large enough for up to 6 adults in sleeping bags or on a full-size mattress with two small beds, while the maximum headroom of 6.2 feet should be sufficient for most people.

The glass fibre frame keeps it relatively light, but at the same time strong enough to withstand the wind, as many customers have noticed. The beams and bars are easy to install in about 10 minutes and the whole construction is put in place with a little effort.

Buy now on Amazon ($174.99).

13. Amazon AMZ-1509

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-105.jpeg This product, made in the Amazon, offers everything you want from a family tent for 8 people at a fraction of the cost of competing models.

They get a space of 15 x 9 feet and up to 6 feet high, so that a small group with their equipment has enough room to breathe. Although it has a polyester rain cover that can be easily removed to release the fine mesh inner tent in summer, it does not reach the ground.

In addition, some customers report that the seams must be covered with a sealant to prevent water from penetrating during heavy rains. It was also noted that this basic tent is surprisingly easy to set up, with an intuitive design and simple instructions.

As far as ventilation is concerned, it should not be a problem in hot summers, as the weaving of the inner layer should allow a lot of air to pass through and prevent the penetration of sand and insects.

This year’s buying guide

With so many choices it’s easy to get lost in the motorcycle tents for sale. There are GPS devices that take us on the way to our destination, and guides to help us make the right choice when purchasing. Of course, what you decide to do will depend more than anything else on your preferences, but with all the things you need to consider when planning a bike ride, it is always possible to forget some things when buying a tent. To avoid this, we will now consider some of the most important elements.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-106.jpeg

Size is likely to have the highest value

The best adventure tent on a motorcycle should be small enough to fit in the boot of your motorcycle, which leads to serious size limitations. Of course it is possible to go into a normal family tent and divide the load between the supervisors, but this does not only imply all kinds of organizational problems, but also that setting up the tent itself takes some time, because any form of pop-up is excluded.

Style

Are you looking for backpack tents, bivouac warehouses or other special products that fit easily in the boot of your bike? From a technical point of view, the backpack tents are the most compact version that can still be called modified tents. They are also light and easy to install by one person and can be ideal for those who do not plan to spend more than one day in the same place.

The motorbike expedition tent is a special option, it offers space for you and the motorbike, as it consists of a sleeping area and a front space. They are usually larger than a backpack tent, but you have to think about it, especially if you don’t want to bring extra protection for your bike. The entrance hall can of course be used for cooking and cleaning, but it only provides shade and some protection from the rain, as the vast majority of models remain open on both sides.

Biwi are mainly larger sleeping bags and due to their thinner material they generally weigh and pack the same amount. In fact, they are not suitable for more than one or two people (if they are good friends or couples), and it may be worth thinking about if you are also considering bringing a motorbike sail.

Bicycle tents are exactly what they appear to be, canopies large enough to cover a motorbike and protect it from the elements. Because they are used regularly and not only for camping, they are generally more resistant than normal tents and offer good protection against water and UV rays.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-107.jpeg

Durability and protection against the elements

Of course the requirement for a small bag size will have certain limits, but the best tents for motorcycles can still be quite difficult. They must protect passengers from rain, dust, sun, dirt, wind and, if possible, from cold.

The impermeability coefficient of each tissue is measured by the pressure at which three drops of water can infiltrate the tissue. However, this is not expressed in pounds per square inch, but in millimetres, which refers to the water level used in the specific vessel during testing.

An H2O test of more than 500 mm H2O is generally not necessary to ensure sufficient protection against rain, but the motor tent tests we assessed indicated that waterproofness can be used as an indicator of overall quality and can be up to 10,000 mm H2O for models made of the strongest material.

The kit also serves as an indicator of the waterproofness of the tent and gives you an idea of the resistance to dust or sand. So when you travel in the desert, you need a good water protection factor.

Another thing worth looking for in a good motorcycle tent is that it has a double construction. This means it will have two layers of material: a thinner layer on the inside and a thicker layer running through the frame. This guarantees good performance all year round, as the top layer can be removed in summer for better ventilation.

Convenience

The best motorhome tent would ideally be easy to set up, even more so than models designed for use with cars. Consider the bike more tiring than the car, and setting up a tent can be annoying at best, not to mention the relaxation and recovery.

Another reason is that you don’t really expect to stay on the terrain for a long time, so the motorcyclist will put up a lot more tents than his car counterpart. Pop-up tents can be set up and erected within minutes – or even less than a minute if you decide to be competitive in this respect – and generally do not require any real manual work, as the frame is already installed and just needs to be placed in the right place.

It’s not really a matter of comfort, but good ventilation in a tent can save you a lot of inconvenience, especially on rainy and dusty days when it’s impossible to keep the door open for fresh air. Most models are equipped with side vents, usually covered with fabric to provide some insulation, but some of the better models may have roof and floor vents to ensure constant air flow throughout the interior.

Tips for your motorcycle adventure

Packing is always annoying and the excitement of our next adventure on the road can cause us to forget to stock up on groceries or choose equipment that is not adapted to the context. You may visit more shops than tourist attractions, and shopping during a visit can help break the atmosphere of the open air and open road. The list of items will of course be mandatory, but it is never a bad idea to follow a few general instructions before settling in.

Thirst, always consider the changes in the weather. When you’re on your bike, you’re much more exposed to the elements than in a car. So inform in advance about the weather forecast for the days you are travelling. A portable radio can also help you stay informed of the weather conditions in the area you are travelling through. Storm and tornado warnings are mainly given by many small stations and there is little reason not to take full advantage of the updates some stations broadcast almost every hour.

Of course your choice of clothing should be seasonal, but you should also keep in mind that sometimes you won’t find a roof over your head. A jacket and motorcycle pants are usually enough to stay warm on cooler summer days, but don’t forget that they can’t be used in all situations (to start with, leather isn’t very comfortable for a backpack).

An extra jacket almost always comes in handy, and you’ll be grateful to get an extra pound or two on a cool Alpine morning. Also, you won’t expect to spend all your time with shoes, so bring hiking boots such as flip-flops or light sneakers.

Being on the road is no excuse for poor hygiene. You do not always have access to the bathroom, but a piece of soap can also work with water from a hose or a lake. A toothbrush and a small packet of toothpaste should not be missing either.

If you go camping often, a solar charger may be the best alternative to batteries for your electricity needs. It is also possible to connect a battery charger to your bike, which turns the power on while you ride.

Always be prepared for medical emergencies and it goes without saying that you must have a first aid kit. In some states all motorists are obliged to carry a vehicle, but the absence of legislation should not be an excuse to ignore this essential safety requirement.

It is quite easy to catch cold when the wind is constantly blowing in your face and no one likes to ride with headaches. Wear a few anti-inflammatory tablets such as aspirin, paracetamol or ibuprofen, which can be used safely while driving. Some readily available painkillers contain codeine, which should be avoided. General antibiotics can be useful in the prevention of pneumonia, and antibiotic cream for open wounds should already be part of the first aid kit.

Other important things not to mention are a flashlight with a pack of spare batteries (switch to a compact flashlight, you won’t chase the bombers over London anymore), a can of water and an insect repellent. When choosing a tent, it is very important that you choose an item that is approved for personal use, as most household items contain hazardous chemicals and potential allergens, making them unsafe for use in a tent.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-109.jpeg

What other camping equipment do you need?

Getting the best motorhome tent will not take much time unless you want to think about the rest of your equipment. Items such as the sleeping bag and the burner are of course priceless if you plan to spend the night outside and each of these items must meet certain important requirements.

A full-size sleeping bag is often too big for a motorcycle ride, so a compact mummy model that follows the contours of your body is perhaps best suited. Assuming you are not travelling in the Arctic, a model designed for 20 degrees Fahrenheit will probably keep you warm most nights. The presence of a foot box is also a research topic, because the narrowness of this area can be particularly unpleasant.

The projector will be useful during night walks around the camp. Some tasks require both hands and a large flashlight takes up too much space in the bike shed. Most new headlight models use LED bulbs, making them much brighter than you’d think because of their small size.

Building an open fire is not always recommended or even legally permitted. The portable heating can be used in any situation, as long as gas is available. It goes without saying that this is a lighter model, which ideally can be made even more compact to facilitate transport.

It is important to have sufficient water for drinking, cooking and washing up, and many remote campsites do not always have a permanent facility. The canteen will provide you with enough drinks during your trip, but you will need a larger container to cover your needs in the vicinity of the warehouse. A soft object can work better than a bus because you can fold it gently when it is empty.

If you have back problems or if you want extra comfort from your sleeping surface, a pillow is a good investment. This provides insulation, which can be particularly desirable if the floor of your tent is not sufficient. An inflatable unit is recommended because it is usually very small.

Although a bean pot seems romantic, reminiscent of the cowboy era, there really is no reason not to use the latest technology in kitchen appliances. Modern pots have foldable handles and take up little space, they can be stacked together like nesting Russian dolls. It is possible to take all kitchen utensils from the space taken up by a large pot.

Finally, a pocket knife will always come in handy when camping. The more extra features, the better. The surface of the friction lighter can be used as a spare lighter when matches get wet or start leaking, while the opener blade attached to it does not need to carry additional tools.

Frequently asked questions

V: What is an engine tent for?

A walk is certainly an exciting adventure for any runner, because nothing compares to the feeling of being outside for a long time. However, since you never know what conditions you will be exposed to at the chosen location, it is a good idea to ensure that your bike is properly protected.

This is where the waterproof tent comes into the picture, because these practical features have been specially designed to guarantee your safety and that of your journey. Depending on the model you choose, you will have enough space to protect yourself and your bike from rain and other elements.

However, when looking at the models, you should also consider the storage space available on the engine. It is important that these tents have a waterproof structure, because moisture can damage the bike. In general, a motorcycle tent is a great way to keep your vehicle safe and provide your own peace of mind when riding with other motorcyclists.

Every runner knows that you need to keep yourself and your equipment dry to enjoy the outdoor adventure, and that’s exactly what a tent like this is for.

https://tipsmotorcycleaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/word-image-110.jpeg

V: Are motorbike tents waterproof?

Most motorcycle tents are waterproof, because this is a very important aspect of the protection they offer. You don’t want your trip to be damaged by rain or sunlight, so you should always choose the model with this function. The design may vary as well as the space it offers, but the ability to withstand harsh weather conditions is a must for any runner.

It is true that these products cannot offer the same level of protection as a garage, but they allow you to store your bike comfortably for a few days while you enjoy the adventure. If you have a model in mind that is not waterproof, you should choose another option if you know that you will be driving in varying conditions.

In addition to waterproofing, every rider can tell you that there is another aspect you should take a closer look at, namely the space the tent offers. We’ve already said it’s important to protect your bike from the rain, but if you buy a small model, you may only have enough space to keep you and your family dry, not your bike.

On the other hand, as every cyclist knows, the storage space for the bike is also somewhat limited, so all aspects have to be taken into account before making a choice.

V: How do I clean a motorbike tent?

We all know that walking is fun, but it’s also about dealing with dust and potentially messy situations. However, the good news is that cleaning an engine tent is not a difficult task, especially if you opt for a waterproof construction. In fact, you have to remember that all your equipment has to be waterproof, but that’s a different story.

In most cases you can simply use cold water, mild soap and possibly a non-abrasive sponge to remove the dirt. As experienced runners can say, it’s a good idea to stay away from bleach, dishwasher detergents or plasticizers. This can damage both the fabric and the water-repellent coating.

Depending on the difficult circumstances of your trip, you may have to repeat the process, but this rarely happens. When you’re done, you can just let it dry somewhere outside the house.

Using a garage or other storage facility can be a good idea here, as it also protects against UV rays that can damage the surface and possibly even the design if it is a colored model.

V: How can I repack my tent after use?

When it comes to reconditioning something, especially motorcycle transmissions, it can be quite complicated. If you don’t want to spend the whole trip wondering how to get back on your bike comfortably, you should check online for some tips and tricks to get the job done.

The answer in this case depends on a number of other factors, such as the size of the tent, the available space and whether the tent can be folded easily and comfortably due to special design features. Walking certainly has its advantages, but if you don’t have anyone to help you, it can be an adventure to rebuild everything.

You should make sure all equipment and the tent are dry before putting them in the bike room, especially if you have a long ride ahead of you. Otherwise they may get damaged during transport and it will never be fun, as other drivers can confirm.

Once again, we cannot stress enough the importance of waterproof equipment for any outdoor adventure or trip, especially if you are one of the less experienced pilots in the field. When you get home, you have to unpack everything and leave the garage for a while to ensure that each item is dry and safely stored in a more permanent location.

V: What is the difference between motorbike tents?

For these tents there are several options to choose from. The first thing to consider is how far you want to go and what you need to do to enjoy this adventure in comfort. Before you leave your garage, you should also think about how many people will follow you.

Motorcycle tents may be the tents that comfortably accommodate more friends or family members, but in reality there is no room for the motorbike itself. It might be a good idea, but if it starts raining and you don’t have a garage to park your bike, you probably won’t be very happy with it. The same applies to hard sunlight, which can damage certain parts over time.

Although these models are easier to transport as they are generally smaller, you can also imagine equipment suitable for a motorcycle. Although they are larger and therefore more difficult to handle, you will probably be satisfied with the extra protection they provide for your car. The choice depends on your needs and the length or frequency of your walk.
